Glamping is for those who get enjoyment from the outdoors but dread the hassle of tents, sleeping bags, dirt, critters and overused campground bathrooms. It combines a lot of of the luxuries you’d suppose to find at a four-star resort with a good deal of of the best distinct elements of camping. Glamping accommodations may include a raised tent cabin with a front porch, running water, electricity, general beds with comforters, heating, bathrooms with showers, kitchenettes with microwave and more. We only recognise of three campgrounds in California that we would consider a unfeigned glamping experience; El Capitan Canyon located north of Santa Barbara along the Pacific Coast, TreeBones Resort along California’s Central Coast in Big Sur and the Sequoia High Sierra Camp in Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park. Treebones Resort is located in the heart of Big Sur on California’s Central Coast. Situated 25 miles north of San Simeon and 65 miles south of Monterey, Treebones is perched on a hillside overlooking Highway 1 and the Pacific Ocean. There’s a great deal of seclusion being nestled in a sycamore and redwood forest with no major town within 25 miles and finish lack of cell. They offer 16 yurts featuring polished wood floors, redwood decks, plush queen-size beds with linens and comforters, heaters, electric lighting, sinks with hot & cold running water and French door entries. Showers and restrooms are centrally located. Resort amenities include a restaurant serving fresh gourmet meals from sushi to filet mignon, a heated pool & spa, massage service and live music on Saturday nights for the duration of the summer. Resort actions include hiking, kayaking, surfing, swimming and beach combing. El Capitan Canyon is located approximately 20 miles north (west) of Santa Barbara on Highway 1. Take the exit for El Capitan Campground and state beach. On the ocean side of the highway is El Capitan State Beach with campgrounds and a great deal of beach access. On the inland side is El Capitan Canyon providing more than 130 cabins and luxuriousness tents along picturesque El Capitan Creek. Their Cedar Cabins feature front porches, peak ceilings, full bathrooms, king, queen or double beds, heating, fine linens and towels, kitchenettes with microwave, mini-fridge, wet bar sink and coffeemaker. A picnic table with benches, grill and fire pit are located just outside each cabin for outdoor gatherings. The Safari Tents feature a great deal of of the same amenities as the cabins minus the full bath and kitchenettes. El Capitan Canyon has not long back added Adventure Yurts to it is accommodation choices. These round tent cabins feature wooden platforms, electricity, general beds and a domed skylight. Resort amenities include a market & deli, heated swimming pool, complimentary beach cruiser bikes and Saturday evening summer concerts. The market sells camping furnishes and souvenir gifts while the deli serves up gourmet fare and barbeque kits from hot dogs to tri-tip. Beach access is only a short stroll underneath the freeway and down a forest trail through sycamore trees to the state beach. No motorized vehicles are permitted in the canyon, so visitors are shuttled to their cabins. Sequoia High Sierra Camp is located off the Generals Highway amid Lodgepole in Sequoia National Park and Grant Grove in Kings Canyon. Choose to arrive by way of a strenuous 12-mile hike from Highway 198 at the Lodgepole Visitor Center, or the one-mile trek from the Marvin Pass trailhead parking lot at the end of Big Meadow Horse Corral Road. The Sequoia High Sierra Camp offers 36 tent cabins with wood floors, area rugs, plush-top beds, feather pillows, oversize shuttered windows, chairs and tables, each day maid service and toiletries. At anyplace from $150 to $500 per night for two guests, glamour camping is not the cheap substitute to hotel accommodations. In fact, most glamping emplacements may be more per night than the nearest resort. But there’s something to be said with regards to being in the outdoors with not one thing more than a layer of canvas separating you from the fresh air and wind brushing through the trees… exceptionally if there’s no dirt involved. One could argue that these resorts are supplying an amenity more priceless than any other brick-n-mortar resort may offer. For those looking to spend less on something amidst camping and glamping, there are various choices for economy tent cabins and yurts allround California. Some of these are lakeside resorts providing some amenities to High Sierra camps that may only be reached by way of some miles of hiking. I bought these for my college commuter bike, which is a mid-quality suspension-fork mountain bike with 2.125×26″ tires. They fit pretty well, albeit with a few snags as one should expect for universal fenders of any kind. Some of the brackets took a bit of tweaking, but everything went together with the included hardware. The front fender does a great job of catching water thrown off the wheel and it conforms well to my 26″ tire. It does bounce a bit on bumps and smacks the tire, but the bottom is tapered away from the tire so it doesn’t get caught, it just slaps the tire once. The rear fender isn’t quite as nice as the front one as it arches up over the rear tire, leaving about a 3″ gap at the top of the tire. It has a steel stiffener which helps keep it aligned over the tire, but it is still somewhat flexible side-to-side due to the lack of truly solid mounting brackets. It does the job, but it looks a little funny. It also doesn’t protect the seatpost and bottom bracket from water, so your feet will catch a bit of water from here. This really isn’t the fault of the fenders though, as they aren’t intended to be full fenders. Overall, I’d recommend these, especially considering how difficult it can be to find even decent fenders for mountain bikes. Their utilitarian performance combined with the low price makes them an excellent value. 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. This product is flexible to attach, but more flexibility would be nice… All in all for the price, this is a decent buy. I’ll probably look to get longer ones in the future… |
